The Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Council, Hon. Maurice Orwough, today joined a pivotal gathering of Tiv leaders at the Tiv Supreme Council Meeting, held at the historic Tor Tiv Palace in Gboko, Benue State.
Presided over by His Royal Majesty, Professor James Ortese Iorzua Ayatse, the Tor Tiv and Paramount Ruler of the Tiv Nation, the session brought together Governor Hyacinth Alia, representatives from other Tiv-speaking local government areas, and prominent sons and daughters of Tiv land to deliberate on pressing matters affecting the community’s unity, development, and future direction.
The meeting, described as a strategic convergence of political, traditional, and cultural leadership, focused on fostering cohesion amid rising security challenges, land disputes, and socio-economic concerns impacting Tiv communities across Benue and beyond.
Hon. Orwough’s participation underscored the critical role of local government in bridging grassroots realities with broader Tiv aspirations. Alongside Governor Alia and other stakeholders, discussions reportedly centered on sustainable peace, youth empowerment, agricultural revival, and strengthening cultural identity in the face of modern pressures.
With the Tiv Nation navigating complex internal and external dynamics, the assembly at the Tor Tiv Palace signals a renewed commitment to collective action. As one of Nigeria’s largest ethnic groups, the outcomes of such high-level engagements are expected to influence not only Benue State but also the broader North-Central region.
The presence of security details and the large turnout of dignitaries highlighted both the significance of the deliberations and the determination to safeguard Tiv heritage while advancing progress. As the council continues its work, the Tiv people look toward leadership that unites tradition with forward-thinking governance.
