Social media buzzed on 28th December 2025 as a post by prominent personality D’naked Elder Sughnen Yaaya shared a video clip of Hon. Regina Akume extending birthday wishes to her husband, Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Senator George Akume. In the message, Mrs. Akume, often referred to affectionately as “Mummy Regina,” urged the SGF to remain steadfast in Christianity, emphasizing that the faith has been instrumental in the family’s progress and should not be abandoned for another religion.
The post raised eyebrows with the question: “Is SGF moving off Christianity?” It highlighted concerns that Akume might be drifting from his Christian roots, while noting hope that he isn’t, pointing out that a recent family wedding was held in church.
However, recent events provide context showing no evidence of any shift in faith. Senator Akume, a devout Catholic honored with the Knight of St. John International (KSJI), celebrated his 72nd birthday on 27th December 2025 with a thanksgiving service in church. Just a day later, on 28th December, a grand church wedding was held for his son Samuel, attended by high-profile guests including Vice President Kashim Shettima and Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia.
Speculation appears linked to the recent public announcement of Akume’s marriage to Queen Zaynab Ngohemba, a union confirmed to be over a year old and rooted in personal choice rather than religious conversion. Akume remains married to Regina Akume, with no reports of divorce or change in his long-standing Christian commitment.
The birthday message underscores the couple’s shared faith journey, serving as a reminder of family values amid public life. As rumors circulate, the consistent church involvement reaffirms that Senator George Akume’s Christian foundation stands strong.
