President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has extended warm congratulations to Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, Governor of Benue State, on the occasion of his 60th birthday, celebrated on May 15.
In a special tribute released by the Benue State Government, President Tinubu described Governor Alia’s political journey as “faith made manifest.” He praised the governor, an ordained Catholic priest since 1990, for his compassion, dedication to God and humanity, and his long service to the people of Benue State.
The President noted that it was no surprise that the people of Benue elected Alia as their governor in 2023, following in the footsteps of another revered priest, Very Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu, who governed the state from 1992 to 1993.
President Tinubu commended Governor Alia for his transformative efforts in industrialising the state and expanding its road network. He highlighted key achievements, including the establishment of tomato and fruit juice factories, beer, nylon and polythene factories, as well as a large-scale bakery, which are providing employment opportunities and boosting the state’s economy.
The President also acknowledged infrastructural developments such as improved road networks in Makurdi and Gboko, including underpasses that have eased traffic and enhanced urban life. He further praised investments in education through the establishment of a University of Agriculture, Science and Technology, and upgrades to facilities at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital.
In his message, President Tinubu commended Governor Alia’s peace-building initiatives and efforts to foster unity among the people of Benue State and within his political family. He encouraged the governor to sustain and deepen his security and peace-building efforts, expand welfare programmes, and continue infrastructure development to uplift more citizens.
The tribute concluded with President Tinubu wishing Governor Alia many more years of good health and strength as he continues to serve Benue State and the nation.
Governor Alia’s milestone birthday has drawn tributes from various quarters, with many using the occasion to reflect on his unique journey from the pulpit to the seat of power and the positive changes witnessed under his administration.
