Photographs and videos circulating on social media show large billboards and banners bearing messages such as “Kwande/Ushongo Volunteers for Alia/KsgoL 2027” torn down, ripped apart, or left lying damaged on the ground. Some posters featuring the governor’s image alongside slogans endorsing his re-election were found vandalized in rural and semi-urban locations.

Detractors and online commentators have interpreted the incidents as early signs of growing opposition and discontent toward the Alia administration in certain parts of the state. They argue that the targeted destruction of promotional materials signals weakening grassroots support and potential trouble for the governor’s anticipated second-term bid.

Supporters of the governor, however, have downplayed the acts as the work of a few disgruntled elements or political rivals seeking to create a false impression of widespread rejection. They maintain that isolated vandalism does not reflect the broader sentiment among Benue people, many of whom continue to express appreciation for ongoing interventions in security, infrastructure, and welfare programs.

No group has publicly claimed responsibility for the destruction, and security agencies are yet to issue an official statement or confirm arrests related to the incidents. The development comes amid heightened political activity across the state, with early mobilization by various camps as parties and aspirants position themselves for the 2027 elections.
