The Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of Lieutenant J.O. Ejeh, a young and promising officer of the Armoured Corps, who was killed during a Boko Haram ambush in the North-East region.
Lieutenant Ejeh, attached to the 21 Special Armoured Brigade, lost his life on March 6, 2026, while on active duty in counter-insurgency operations under Operation Hadin Kai, the military’s ongoing campaign against Boko Haram insurgents.
Military sources and members of the Nigerian Defence Academy community reported that Lieutenant Ejeh and several other soldiers were caught in a sudden ambush by insurgents. The incident underscores the persistent dangers faced by troops on the frontlines in the fight against terrorism.
Hailing from Ipari in Otukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area of Benue State, Lieutenant Ejeh’s death has sparked widespread grief among his family, colleagues, friends, and community members. Those who knew him described him as a courageous, dedicated, and honourable officer deeply committed to defending the nation. One colleague remarked, “He was committed to defending the nation and paid the ultimate price with bravery and honour.”
The Nigerian military has reaffirmed its resolve to continue operations against Boko Haram despite the heavy sacrifices of soldiers. Authorities emphasized that the campaign will persist until peace and stability are fully restored to affected communities in the North-East.
Lieutenant Ejeh’s passing adds to the growing list of Nigerian security personnel who have made the supreme sacrifice in the long-standing battle against insurgency. His service is remembered as a powerful testament to the dedication, courage, and patriotism of the nation’s armed forces.
