The President of the Students’ Union (SU) at Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), Comr. Akighirga Vitalis, has led a delegation to the Benue State Ministry of Education and Knowledge Management to address concerns over the prolonged ASUU strike disrupting academic activities.
In a press release issued by Ukor Mark Tyodoo, Chief Press Secretary to the Students’ Union President, the visit on June 23, 2026, was aimed at interfacing directly with the Honourable Commissioner for Education and Knowledge Management, Dr. Margaret Ijagwua Adamu, regarding the strike’s impact on students.
Although the Commissioner was unavailable due to other official engagements, the delegation was received by the Director of Administration, Mr. Nick Joko, and the Director of Legal Services, Barr. Lucy Dondo. Comr. Akighirga Vitalis expressed deep concern about the continued disruption of academic programmes and the growing anxiety among students, noting the numerous appeals and inquiries the union has received.
Mr. Nick Joko commended the Students’ Union President for his maturity and proactive leadership in seeking solutions. He assured the delegation that the Commissioner would be formally briefed on their concerns and that a follow-up meeting would be arranged. Barr. Lucy Dondo also praised the visit as a responsible step and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment under Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia to strengthening the education sector and resolving the issues.
The Students’ Union President reiterated his commitment to continued engagement with relevant authorities to ensure students’ concerns are addressed and academic activities resume as soon as possible.
