The Nigerian Air Force has a new Chief of the Air Staff, with Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke set to be promoted to the next rank in the coming days. Born on February 20, 1972, in Makurdi, Benue State, to Air Warrant Officer Sylvester and Mrs. Ngozi Aneke, AVM Aneke hails from Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Aneke’s educational journey began at Army Children School New Cantonment ‘A’ NDA Kaduna (1976-1982), where he earned his first school leaving certificate, followed by Government College Kaduna (1982-1987), where he obtained his West African School Certificate. His military career commenced on September 10, 1988, when he enlisted into the Nigerian Defence Academy as part of the 40th Regular Course, being commissioned as a pilot officer on September 10, 1993.
AVM Aneke holds a Bachelor of Science in Physics, a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the University of Calabar, a Master’s in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, a Master’s in Political Economy and Developmental Studies from the University of Abuja, and a Master’s in Strategic Studies from the Air War College United States Air Force Air University, Montgomery, Alabama.
Throughout his career, he has attended various courses, including Aeromechanical Engineering and advanced flying training, amassing 4,359 flying hours. His appointments include roles such as Admin Officer at Aircraft Overhaul Centre and Maintenance Depot Ikeja, Commanding Officer Base Services Wing Air Maritime Group Benin, and Deputy Director Evaluation at Nigerian Air Force Headquarters. He currently serves as the Deputy Commandant of the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna.
AVM Aneke is a seasoned pilot, having flown aircraft such as the Air Beetle 18, Citation 500, and Gulfstream 550, and holds an Advance Transport Pilot Licence (ATPL). His accolades include GSS DSS GSM FCMP Psc USAFWC MSc MIAD MPEDS. He is happily married to Mrs. Ngozi Enderline Aneke, with three sons, and enjoys flying, music, and movies.
This appointment marks a significant milestone for the Nigerian Air Force, with AVM Aneke bringing a wealth of experience to his new role.
