In a swift move aimed at arresting the club’s declining fortunes, the Interim Management Committee of Lobi Stars Football Club has announced the indefinite suspension of Technical Adviser Coach Abubakar Bala Mohammed. The decision, which came out of an emergency management meeting on December 15, 2025, cites poor team performance as the primary reason for the action.
According to the official press release shared by the club, Lobi Stars have struggled in the ongoing Nigeria National League (NNL) season, managing only 7 points from a possible 18 after six games. This meager haul has left the Pride of Benue languishing in 6th position in their group, which consists of 8 clubs. The management expressed deep concern over the lackluster results, emphasizing that the team has failed to meet expectations despite the resources invested in rebuilding the squad following relegation from the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) at the end of the previous campaign.
Coach Bala, who was unveiled as Technical Adviser in August 2025 with the mandate to secure an immediate return to the top flight, has now been directed to hand over his duties to Chief Coach John Onuh (Abacha) with immediate effect. The suspension is indefinite, pending further review by the management.
The press release was e-signed by Emmanuel Terwase Uja, Director of Media and Communications for the club.
This development comes at a challenging time for Lobi Stars, who have been working to regain their footing in the second tier after a long stint in the elite division. Fans and stakeholders will be hoping that the change in technical leadership sparks an improvement in results as the season progresses. The club remains committed to its goal of promotion, but the pressure is now firmly on the interim setup to deliver.
