Human Trafficking Suspect Escapes While Being Transported to Benue

A suspected human trafficker, Mr. Emmanuel Waapera, has escaped custody while being transported to Benue to face authorities.

According to a report by Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya, Waapera, identified as a chief trafficker from Gwer East, was arrested after taking three girls from Taraku to Lagos with the intention of handing them over to a madam for payment. The victims were rescued following his arrest.

The suspect reportedly escaped this morning when the vehicle stopped at Otukpo for refreshments. The driver has since provided details of the incident.

The activist, who shared photos of the suspect, has compiled additional information including his village, parents, and bank details, promising further action.

This latest development has raised concerns about the handling of high-profile trafficking cases in the state. Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the escape.

Human trafficking remains a major challenge in parts of Benue, with several syndicates reportedly targeting young girls for sexual exploitation.
