Guma Local Government Council Hon. Maurice Orwough Commissions New Projects, Reaffirms Commitment to Development

The Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Council, Hon. Maurice Orwough, today commissioned the newly reconstructed Administrative Block and Chairman’s Lodge at the council headquarters in Gbajimba. The event underscores the administration’s commitment to enhancing governance and improving accessibility by staying closer to the people.

Representing Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Alia, Dr. Hingah Biem commended Hon. Orwough for his focus, prudence, and developmental drive. Biem highlighted the projects as practical demonstrations of effective leadership at the grassroots, aligning with Governor Alia’s vision for a new Benue built on good governance and people-oriented policies. He assured the people of Guma of the state government’s readiness to extend massive development projects to the area.

Hon. Orwough reaffirmed his administration’s pledge to sustain partnerships with the Benue State Government to advance development in Guma. He expressed gratitude to Governor Alia for his visionary leadership and continuous support to local government administrations across the state, noting that the projects symbolize his commitment to leadership presence within the local government.

The council chairman also outlined other ongoing projects, including the Daudu-Gbajimba Road (a 47-kilometer road under construction with state government counterpart funding), remodelling of the Daudu Police Station, ongoing construction of Udei Police Station, a 7-kilometer Ngban-Udei Road, and improvements in healthcare with a clinic built at Ukaa and another under construction at Aninge. These initiatives aim to reposition Guma for growth and stability.

Orwough emphasized a collaborative approach to peace and security, acknowledging the vital roles of traditional rulers, security agencies, and community leaders in maintaining relative calm. He reiterated that security requires collective action and pledged to work tirelessly for sustainable peace.

The event, attended by political leaders, traditional rulers, security heads, council staff, and party faithfuls, saw additional praise from Dr. Yanmar Ortese, Benue State Commissioner for Rural Development and Cooperatives, and Dr. Cletus Tyokyaa, representing former chairmen of Guma. The Ter Guma, His Royal Highness Chief Dennis Shemberga, was represented by the Mue Ter Ihyarev, Chief Augustine Shonyi, who congratulated Orwough on the successful completion of the projects and prayed for his continued wisdom and protection.
