In what appears to be the first major public endorsement ahead of the 2027 governorship race in Benue State, the Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government, Hon. Maurice Orwough, has thrown his full weight behind Governor Hyacinth Alia for a second term.
The declaration came Sunday evening in Yelewata, Guma LGA, when a political pressure group known as “Yelewata Door to Door Campaign for Orwough Ka Alia 2027” hosted the council boss to a rousing reception.
Hundreds of party faithful, youths, women and community leaders turned out in large numbers, carrying banners and chanting solidarity songs for the governor. The group made it clear that their mission is to mobilise every household in Yelewata and beyond to ensure Governor Alia returns to Government House in 2027.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Maurice Orwough expressed deep appreciation for the massive show of love and loyalty, describing it as a testament to the good works of the Alia administration. He promised that the governor will continue to work tirelessly for the welfare and development of every community in the state, including the often hard-to-reach areas of Guma.
The council chairman, who is widely seen as one of the governor’s most loyal appointees, used the occasion to reaffirm that Governor Alia remains the best man to lead Benue beyond 2027, citing his people-centred policies, infrastructure drive and uncompromising stance against insecurity.
Political observers say this early and unambiguous endorsement from a sitting local government chairman in Sankera axis, an area known for its strong political influence, sends a powerful signal that the Alia second-term train has already left the station.
With two years still to the election, the “Orwough Ka Alia 2027” movement appears determined to make support for the priest-governor a household decision long before the campaigns officially begin.
