In a strong show of solidarity, the Executive Chairmen of Guma and Gwer West Local Government Areas, Hon. Maurice Orwough and Hon. Victor Torsar Ormin, on Wednesday paid a sympathy visit to the Ter Tyoshin, HRH Chief Daniel Ayua Abomtse, over the destruction of his residence and other properties several months ago.
The incident, widely believed to have been politically motivated, left parts of the traditional ruler’s compound in ruins and sparked outrage across Tiv land.
During the visit at the chief’s palace, the two council bosses, representing the Lobi and Gwer Intermediate Area, expressed deep sadness at the attack on one of Benue’s most revered traditional institutions. They condemned the act in the strongest terms, describing it as an assault not just on the Tor Tyoshin but on the entire Tiv traditional stool.
Speaking separately, both chairmen pledged continued loyalty and support to the monarch while commending him for his unwavering backing of Governor Hyacinth Alia’s administration. They praised Chief Abomtse’s statesmanlike conduct even in the face of provocation.
In his response, the Tor Tyoshin expressed profound gratitude for the visit and the outpouring of love. He used the occasion to reaffirm his total commitment to the Alia-led government, declaring that the governor has performed far beyond expectations.
“Governor Alia’s achievements can only be compared to the transformational era of the late Aper Aku,” Chief Abomtse said, urging the governor to remain focused and not allow “desperate politicians” to distract him from delivering more dividends of democracy to the people.
The royal father appealed for calm among his subjects and promised that the traditional institution would continue to partner with the state government for peace and development.
The visit has been widely seen as a significant boost to the traditional ruler at a time when political tensions still linger in parts of the state. It also underscores the growing alignment between grassroots political leaders and the Alia administration as 2027 draws nearer.
For now, the Tor Tyoshin says he has put the painful incident behind him and is looking forward to even greater collaboration between the palace and government at all levels for the good of Sankera and Benue State as a whole.
