Guarantee Trust Bank (GTB), Makurdi Branch, has donated over 50 bicycles to Government Model School (GMS) Makurdi for distribution to students who commute long distances to school daily. The donation, made on 23rd September 2026, is aimed at easing their transportation burden, reducing fatigue and improving punctuality.
Delivering the bicycles on behalf of the Bank, Mr. God’s Son, Head of Accounts, and Mr. Yulus P. Dyapaa stated that the intervention was designed to cushion the stress and tiredness experienced by students who trek long distances, often arriving exhausted and late for lessons. They noted that the Bank remains committed to supporting initiatives that uplift the education sector and improve the welfare of students in the state.
Receiving the bicycles on behalf of the Teaching Service Board (TSB) Makurdi, the Executive Secretary, Dr. Jacob Bem Tseen, PhD, CNA, represented by the Director of Planning, Research and Statistics, Mr. Onah, expressed profound appreciation for what he described as a timely intervention. He emphasised that the donation would significantly reduce the stress faced by students who travel from far distances and return home exhausted, adding that Guarantee Trust Bank will be remembered for its contribution to the upliftment of education in Benue State.
In his remarks, Dr. Robert Apir, Principal of Government Model School Makurdi and President of the All Nigeria Confederation of Principals of Secondary Schools (ANCOPSS), Benue State Chapter, expressed deep appreciation to the Bank. He charged the benefiting students to make judicious use of the bicycles by maintaining them properly, adhere strictly to safety guidelines given the usually heavy traffic during the hours the bicycles will be in use, and avoid accidents. Dr. Apir further appealed to Guarantee Trust Bank to extend a similar intervention to the teachers of the school, many of whom also commute from far distances.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Miss Okpen, a student of SSE 2, thanked Guarantee Trust Bank for the gesture and assured that the bicycles would be properly kept and maintained to enable them get to school on time. The donation is expected to positively impact the academic lives of the benefiting students by ensuring regular and timely attendance, thereby enhancing their overall learning outcomes.
