Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has publicly reaffirmed the strong and productive working relationship between his administration and Hon. Bemdoo Peter Ipusu, the former Majority Chief Whip of the Benue State House of Assembly.
The governor made the declaration on January 18, 2026, while addressing residents during a visit to Ugbah, the headquarters of Logo Local Government Area. Speaking in the presence of community leaders and stakeholders, Governor Alia described Hon. Ipusu—who previously represented the Katsina-Ala West (Loko) State Constituency—as a dependable partner fully committed to the collective interest and progress of Benue State.
The remarks were widely seen as a deliberate effort to dispel circulating speculations of any existing rift or disagreement between the governor and the former lawmaker. Governor Alia stressed that collaboration, unity, and mutual respect among political leaders remain essential ingredients for driving development, ensuring good governance, and delivering dividends of democracy to the people of Benue.
He assured residents that his administration continues to prioritize inclusive leadership and sustained cooperation with all relevant stakeholders, irrespective of political differences or past affiliations. The governor emphasized that such partnerships are vital for addressing the state’s developmental challenges and fostering lasting peace and prosperity.
Hon. Bemdoo Ipusu, a prominent figure from the Logo axis and a key player in Benue politics, served as Majority Chief Whip in the previous assembly before the current administration took office. His relationship with the governor had recently become the subject of public speculation, with some quarters suggesting underlying tensions possibly linked to political alignments or influence in the Logo and Katsina-Ala areas.
By using the platform of a community engagement in Logo LGA to address the issue directly, Governor Alia appears to have moved to quash the rumours and project an image of harmony within the state’s leadership circle. The statement reinforces the administration’s focus on unity at a time when Benue continues to grapple with security concerns, infrastructure deficits, and economic recovery efforts.
Political observers note that such public reaffirmations of alliances are common in Nigerian politics, particularly ahead of critical periods such as local government elections or preparations for future electoral cycles. The governor’s comments are expected to help stabilize perceptions and encourage continued collaboration among key figures across party lines and constituencies for the overall benefit of the state.
