Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has restated his administration’s unwavering commitment to restoring lasting peace in the Sankara axis of Benue State, a region that has experienced repeated security challenges in recent years.

The governor gave the assurance on Monday while making a stopover at the Ukum Local Government Secretariat during his journey to Wukari in Taraba State for a peace meeting. He disclosed that his government is collaborating closely with the Federal Government to strengthen security operations across troubled areas, including plans to establish a tactical operations base of the Nigerian Army in the Sankara region. This base, he explained, will enable rapid response, intelligence-led operations, and decisive action against terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry.

Governor Alia appealed directly to individuals involved in criminal activities to surrender their arms, embrace peace, and reintegrate into society. He also urged security agencies to intensify patrols in high-crime areas to deter further violence and protect lives and property.

During the visit, the governor commissioned a temporary office complex constructed by the Chairman of Ukum Local Government Area, Hon. Jonathan Modi, to serve as an interim administrative hub following earlier destruction of government infrastructure in the area.
