Governor Alia Disburses Scholarships to 55 Children of Fallen Security Heroes and Sponsors 23 Notre Dame Mkar Students

Benue State Governor, His Excellency Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, on Thursday, March 5, 2026, personally disbursed scholarships to 55 children of security officers who lost their lives in the line of duty, particularly due to insurgent attacks while serving in the state.

The moving ceremony took place at Government College, Makurdi, where the governor described the sacrifices of the fallen heroes as a powerful testament that “peace is expensive.” He stressed that these ultimate sacrifices must not be in vain, declaring that their bravery and commitment to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty should continue to inspire the living. Governor Alia emphasized that the fallen cannot be replaced, but their legacies must be honored through meaningful support for their families.

The governor announced his firm resolve to sponsor the education of these children regardless of their state of origin, as long as their parents served and fell in Benue. He urged the public to view security personnel as true partners in the fight against crime and called for continued support and appreciation for their service to the nation.

In a further show of compassion, Governor Alia revealed that he had already provided funds to widows of the fallen officers to start small businesses, with disbursements to follow after proper profiling.

At the same event, the governor extended full sponsorship to 23 students from Notre Dame Secondary School, Mkar, who have also been affected by similar tragedies. He promised to stand by them throughout their academic journey, encouraging the beneficiaries to remain dedicated to their studies, recognize the value of good education, and make him proud through excellence.

The initiative underscores Governor Alia’s administration’s deep commitment to human welfare, social justice, and ensuring that families who have paid the ultimate price for the state’s security are not left behind. The governor’s direct involvement and emotional engagement with the children and families during the disbursement left a profound impression, reinforcing hope and solidarity amid the challenges posed by insecurity.
