Governor Alia Celebrates Speaker Abbas at 61

Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia has congratulated the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, GCON, on the occasion of his 61st birthday.

In a message released on Thursday, 1 October 2026, the Governor described Speaker Abbas as a distinguished public servant, legislator and academic whose years of service have been marked by commitment to nation-building and democratic development. He noted that the responsibility of leading a chamber of 360 elected representatives requires patience, consultation and a strong sense of duty to the Nigerian people, adding that the Speaker has discharged the role creditably.

Governor Alia recalled that since his election to the House of Representatives in 2011, Abbas has continued to contribute to the legislative process, rising through various responsibilities to become Speaker of the Green Chamber in 2023. He commended the Speaker for the leadership he has provided and for his commitment to legislation, representation and effective parliamentary oversight.

The Governor joined the Speaker’s constituents and well-wishers in thanking God for his life and praying for continued wisdom, good health, greater strength and further accomplishments as he continues to contribute to the progress and unity of Nigeria. He also prayed that God would continue to guide and protect Abbas, his family and the leadership of the House of Representatives as they serve the nation.
