The Benue State Government held a combined valedictory session on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Makurdi, to honor the life and legacy of Chief Audu Innocent Ogbeh, a distinguished statesman. Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, represented by his Deputy, Barr. Sam Ode, led the tributes, describing the late Chief Ogbeh as “a man of unparalleled vision and service to the nation.”
In his speech, Governor Alia highlighted Chief Ogbeh’s immense contributions to Nigeria’s development, particularly in governance, agriculture, and public service. “Today, we gather not only to mourn but to celebrate a life well-lived. Chief Audu Ogbeh was a true patriot whose unwavering dedication to the collective good of the nation will continue to inspire generations,” the Governor remarked.
Alia also traced Ogbeh’s political journey, noting his tenure as Deputy Speaker of the 1st Benue State House of Assembly from October 1979 to February 1982, representing the defunct Otukpa State Constituency. He praised Ogbeh’s brilliance, foresight, and passion for serving his people, with contributions that were both impactful and enduring.
Describing Ogbeh as a true ambassador of Benue State, Alia said, “Chief Ogbeh carried the spirit of Benue with him wherever he went. He was proud of his Idoma heritage and prioritized the welfare of his people above all else. His life teaches us that leadership is not about power but service.” The Governor urged Nigerians to emulate Ogbeh’s values of integrity, courage, and commitment to progress, honoring his memory by striving for a Nigeria built on truth, inclusion, and justice.
The session was presided over by Rt. Hon. Alfred Aondoaver Emberga, Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, who also paid tribute to Ogbeh’s contributions as Deputy Speaker of the 1st Assembly. The event was attended by dignitaries, including the deceased’s wife, Her Excellency Obehi Audu Ogbeh; Benue State Executive Council members; State House of Assembly members; former Deputy Governor of the state, Chief Stephen Lawani, OFR, CON; and members of the Benue community.
Wrapping up his tribute, Governor Alia declared, “May Chief Audu Innocent Ogbeh’s soul find eternal rest, and may his legacy remain a beacon inspiring us all to greatness.”
