Former Benue Lawmaker Baba Ode Condoles Victims of Herdsmen Attacks, Calls for Urgent Security Action

Rt. Hon. Baba Ode (PhD), former Member of the Benue State House of Assembly and APGA House of Representatives candidate for the Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency, has expressed deep sorrow over the recent killings of innocent people in Otukpo, Nobi, and other affected communities allegedly attacked by armed herders.

Describing the attacks as heartbreaking and unacceptable, Baba Ode extended heartfelt condolences to the families who lost loved ones, those who sustained injuries, and communities living in fear due to persistent insecurity. He noted that no society can make meaningful progress when innocent citizens are subjected to violence, displacement, and destruction of their means of livelihood.

The former lawmaker called on all security agencies to intensify efforts toward identifying, arresting, and prosecuting the perpetrators. He stressed the constitutional responsibility of governments at all levels to protect lives and property, urging both the Federal Government and the Benue State Government to strengthen security operations across Otukpo, Ohimini, and other vulnerable areas.

Baba Ode appealed for improved collaboration between security agencies, community leaders, traditional rulers, youth groups, and other stakeholders to enhance intelligence gathering and ensure prompt responses to threats. He urged residents not to allow criminal elements to divide communities or weaken their resolve for peace, unity, and lawful coexistence, while encouraging vigilance and provision of useful information to security agencies.

Assuring the people of Otukpo and Ohimini Federal Constituency of his commitment, Baba Ode pledged that if elected, the security and welfare of the people would remain among his highest legislative priorities. He promised to champion stronger security policies, improved funding for security institutions, better support for local security initiatives, and measures to permanently end insecurity in the constituency.

He prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of those killed and strength for their families, while hoping for the quick recovery of the injured and the restoration of peace across Benue State.
