A commercial 14-seater bus belonging to Flight Transport Services, travelling from Lagos to Gboko, was involved in a ghastly accident on Friday afternoon in Aliade, headquarters of Gwer East Local Government Area of Benue State.

The crash happened directly opposite Jopsy Hotel along the busy Makurdi–Gboko federal highway, one of the most travelled routes in the state.

Photos from the scene show the white-and-red Hiace bus completely mangled, with its roof ripped open and the entire right side caved in. The windscreen was shattered and seats torn from their frames, painting a picture of the violent impact.

The post, shared by D’naked Elder Zege’Orkw, quickly went viral as worried relatives and friends began asking for information about passengers. “Kindly check on your loved ones,” the caption urged.

As at the time of filing this report, there has been no official statement from the Benue State Police Command, FRSC, or the transport company on the number of casualties or the cause of the accident. Eyewitnesses at the scene, however, told our correspondent that several passengers sustained serious injuries and were rushed to nearby hospitals, while fears remain that some may have died instantly.

Aliade has unfortunately earned a reputation as an accident black spot on that stretch of road, with reckless overtaking, speeding, and burst tyres frequently cited as causes.

This latest crash comes in the middle of a particularly grim week for road safety in Benue State, with residents still reeling from the murder of okada rider Abbah and a brazen armed robbery in Makurdi barely 24 hours earlier.
