EFCC Makurdi Zonal Directorate Visits Aku Uka of Wukari, Seeks Royal Support in Anti-Corruption Drive

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Makurdi Zonal Directorate, has intensified grassroots engagement in the fight against financial crimes with a high-level courtesy visit to the Aku Uka of Wukari, His Royal Highness Ishaku Adda Ali Matakhtitswen, who also serves as Chairman of the Taraba State Council of Traditional Rulers.

The delegation, led by Acting Zonal Director ACE I Effa Imoh Okim, was received on Friday, February 20, 2026, in Wukari. The visit aimed to forge stronger institutional ties with traditional authorities and harness their influence to promote transparency, accountability, and integrity at the community level.

During the engagement, Okim highlighted the pivotal role traditional rulers play in shaping public behaviour, discouraging corrupt practices, and fostering ethical standards across society. He stressed that collaboration with royal institutions remains essential to deepening the EFCC’s anti-corruption campaign, particularly in remote and rural communities where grassroots sensitization is most effective.

In response, the Aku Uka welcomed the delegation warmly and expressed appreciation for the Commission’s proactive outreach. He reaffirmed his full support for the EFCC’s mandate and pledged the cooperation of the traditional council in Wukari and across Taraba State to discourage corrupt practices within their domains.

The EFCC team included heads of key units: Legal and Prosecution, Investigation, Administration, Extractive Fraud, Public Affairs, Security and Transport. The visit forms part of the Commission’s broader strategy to deepen community-level partnerships and leverage the moral authority of traditional leaders in sustaining the national anti-corruption effort.
