In a swift response to the violent confrontation between members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and military personnel in Katsina-Ala, Benue State Commissioner for Transport and Energy, Omali Joseph Gwaza, has personally reached out to those injured in the crisis.

The commissioner on Sunday visited the wounded receiving treatment at Nguter Clinic in Katsina-Ala town, where he commiserated with the victims and immediately extended financial assistance to cover their medical bills.

From the clinic, Comr. Gwaza proceeded to the Katsina-Ala Police Station for a closed-door meeting with the Divisional Police Officer. Sources say the discussion centred on the circumstances that led to the clash, the current security situation in the area, and concrete steps to restore calm and prevent a repeat of such incidents.

The confrontation, which occurred earlier in the week, reportedly left several persons with gunshot wounds and sparked tension across the local government.

Residents have praised the commissioner’s hands-on intervention, describing it as a rare show of empathy and leadership at a time when many feel abandoned by those in authority. Many hope the gesture will not only bring relief to the victims but also signal the beginning of genuine efforts to entrench lasting peace in the volatile Katsina-Ala axis.
