The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waididi Shaibu, has assured residents of Benue State of significantly improved security, particularly in communities previously affected by bandit attacks and other forms of insecurity.
The assurance came during his maiden operational visit to army formations in Makurdi, the state capital, where he evaluated the preparedness of troops and engaged directly with personnel.
Lt Gen Shaibu disclosed that additional troops have already been deployed to reinforce ongoing military operations across the state. He emphasized that these reinforcements, combined with sustained efforts, are aimed at strengthening security architecture and ensuring that affected communities can live without fear.
The army chief commended soldiers stationed in Benue for their professionalism, resilience, and dedication in the face of persistent challenges. He described the military profession as noble and urged troops to remain disciplined, alert, and fully committed to their responsibilities.
He reminded personnel that their core duty remains the protection of Nigeria’s territorial integrity and the safeguarding of the nation and its citizens. Shaibu further encouraged soldiers to faithfully discharge their duties and strictly adhere to lawful directives from superiors, stressing that such discipline is essential to national security and unity.
Addressing the welfare of troops, the COAS assured soldiers that their well-being would remain a top priority under his leadership. He pledged that the Nigerian Army would continue to create a supportive environment to enable personnel to excel in their careers and perform optimally.
The visit is seen as part of broader strategic efforts to recalibrate military operations in the North Central region, boost troop morale, and deliver decisive results against criminal elements threatening peace in Benue State. Residents and stakeholders have welcomed the COAS’s assurances and commitment to intensified security measures.
