On January 5, 2026, the Yandev community in Gboko, Benue State, came alive with the vibrant celebration of Yandev Day, organized by the Yandev Community Development Association (YACDA) at Yandev Community Secondary School.
The event, which drew numerous community members, political figures, and socio-cultural dignitaries, kicked off with a Thanksgiving Mass at St. James Parish in Yandev, setting a solemn and reflective tone before transitioning to the school grounds for the main festivities.
Chairing the occasion as the Chairlady, Rt. Hon. Chief Mrs. Dorothy Mato commended Hon. Joseph Ter Jir, the Benue State Commissioner for Power, Renewable Energy, and Transport, for his efforts in coordinating the event. She urged him to collaborate closely with the Yandev community, emphasizing that meaningful consultation with locals on matters affecting them would create mutual opportunities for growth and development, benefiting both the people and the commissioner himself.
Chief Mato went further to advocate for peace and unity among Yandev residents, stressing that collective interests should always take precedence over individual ambitions to foster genuine community progress and economic advancement. In a generous gesture of support for education, she announced a cash donation toward the ongoing renovation of Yandev Community Secondary School, highlighting her commitment to improving local infrastructure.
The event was gracefully chaired by Rt. Hon. Barr. Emmanuel Jime, whose presence added significant weight to the gathering, attracting a diverse array of attendees from various spheres.
