Benue State Assembly Passes Unanimous Vote of Confidence on Governor Hyacinth Alia

In a strong show of solidarity, the Benue State House of Assembly has unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia, commending his exceptional commitment to serving the people and pledging unwavering support for his administration to fulfill its campaign promises.

The motion, moved by Majority Leader Hon. Sir Thomas Dugeri during a plenary session on Monday, December 22, 2025, presided over by the Honourable Speaker Rt. Hon. Berger Alfred Emberga MNIQS, highlighted the governor’s remarkable achievements despite inheriting significant financial, economic, social, and security challenges. Lawmakers praised Alia’s people-oriented leadership for nipping these difficulties in the bud and delivering tangible progress across multiple sectors.

Key milestones cited include the establishment of a new University of Agriculture, Science and Technology in Ihugh, the creation of a Faculty of Engineering and Technological Studies at Fr. Adasu University in Adikpo, clearing salary arrears for workers at the university in Makurdi, and employing over nine thousand teachers for the State Universal Basic Education Board. The assembly also lauded the operationalization of Bread and Water Factories and a nail-producing factory under the Benue Investment and Property Management Company (BIPC), which have generated employment for numerous youths.

Infrastructure development received special mention, with ongoing construction of underpasses and extensive arterial roads in Makurdi and other towns seen as evidence of the governor’s vision to modernize the state capital and urban centers. Members further commended the consistent payment of pensions and salaries to retirees and workers, noting its positive impact on citizens’ purchasing power.

On security, lawmakers pointed to the launch of Anyam Nyor and the procurement of hundreds of security vehicles as critical steps that have strengthened operational and logistical capabilities, contributing significantly to reducing insecurity across the state.

The House unanimously urged Governor Alia to sustain his focused, people-centered approach for the continued development of Benue. The vote reflects broad legislative backing as the administration approaches the midpoint of its tenure, signaling unified resolve to advance the state’s transformation agenda.
