The Benue State Police Command has announced significant operational successes in its ongoing fight against violent crimes, including the arrest of seven suspected kidnappers and armed robbers, recovery of weapons, and the dismantling of a human trafficking syndicate.
In a press release issued on May 22, 2026, the Command detailed that on May 21, 2026, its tactical team, acting on credible intelligence, conducted an operation in Gboko Local Government Area, leading to the arrest of five suspected armed robbers and kidnappers. The suspects engaged operatives in a gun duel before being subdued. Items recovered include two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, two pistols, and rounds of live ammunition.
The police also recovered a Lexus RX 350 vehicle stolen at gunpoint in Owerri, Imo State, which was intercepted in the Otukpo axis of Benue State, leading to the arrest of one suspect.
In Ushongo Local Government Area, operatives arrested suspects linked to armed robbery and an attempted culpable homicide, while also recovering a stolen motorcycle. Additionally, detectives uncovered a kidnapping case that turned out to be a conspiracy involving the purported victim, resulting in the arrest of three suspects.
In a separate operation, the Command busted a suspected human trafficking and job racketeering syndicate that lured young women abroad with fake employment opportunities, only to subject them to exploitation and abuse.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ifeanyi Emenari, PhD, commended the gallantry and professionalism of his officers and urged members of the public to continue providing timely information to security agencies.
The statement was signed by DSP Udeme Edet, Police Public Relations Officer for the Benue State Police Command.
