Following the disturbing wave of student abductions in Niger and Kebbi States that has sent panic across the North-Central region, the Benue State Police Command has moved swiftly to reassure residents that schools, worship centres and public spaces in the state remain completely safe and adequately protected.

Commissioner of Police, CP Emenari Ifeanyi, while addressing journalists in Makurdi today, Friday 5th December 2025, disclosed that security around all educational institutions has been massively beefed up, with special emphasis on girls’ boarding schools.

He revealed that the command has reactivated and strengthened the Schools Protection Squad (SPS), deployed additional plain-clothes and uniformed operatives to strategic locations, and intensified day-and-night patrols around campuses, churches, mosques and major event venues as the Christmas season approaches.

CP Ifeanyi urged parents, guardians, school administrators and religious leaders not to succumb to fear or rumours, stressing that the command is in full control of the security situation and working round the clock with sister agencies to prevent any breach.

“Let me assure every Benue parent that your children are safe in safe hands. We have taken proactive measures far ahead of time. There is no intelligence suggesting any threat to schools or worship centres in Benue at the moment, and we are determined to keep it that way,” the CP stated.

He equally called on citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement or persons to the nearest police formation, promising prompt response.

The assurance has brought visible relief to many parents who had begun contemplating keeping their children at home, especially with the yuletide break drawing near.

With the police, the Community Policing strategy and other security outfits now on red alert, Benue appears determined not to allow the nightmare playing out in neighbouring states to cross its borders.
