Nigerian Army Rescues 27 Kidnapped Passengers in Benue

In a significant operation against terrorism and criminality, the Nigerian Army has rescued 30 kidnapped victims across the country, including 27 passengers abducted in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State. The successful rescue took place during coordinated offensives under Operation WHIRL STROKE, with troops storming the Amoda community to free the hostages.

According to a statement seen by Citizen Television, similar operations in Borno and Sokoto States also liberated three locals and other kidnapped victims held by terrorists. The nationwide efforts, conducted across multiple theaters, saw troops neutralize 15 terrorists, arrest 42 suspects, and recover a cache of arms, ammunition, grenades, explosives, motorcycles, and communication gadgets.

In the North East, breakthroughs were recorded in Borno and Yobe States, where fighters from the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) and Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati Wal-Jihad (JAS) were neutralized during clashes in Dikwa, Gwoza, Bama, Banki, and Gujba areas. Several terrorists fled, abandoning weapons and logistics.

Elsewhere, joint security forces arrested 15 suspects with illicit drugs in Kaduna, while Operation Delta Safe troops, working with NDLEA, apprehended 25 drug suspects in Bayelsa and two oil theft suspects in Delta. In the South, troops destroyed illegal crude oil bunkering sites in Imo, Rivers, and Delta States, recovering thousands of liters of stolen petroleum products. In Ogun State, drug syndicates were intercepted with large quantities of cannabis.
