Benue Okada Rider Stabbed to Death by Passenger in Brutal Bike Theft Attempt in Ogun State

A young commercial motorcyclist from Benue State has been killed in a shocking robbery gone wrong in Ogun State, leaving his family and the entire okada community in mourning.

The victim, identified as Sunday, hailed from Otakini Ainu in Oju Local Government Area of Benue State. He was operating as a commercial okada rider when the deadly incident occurred.

According to eyewitnesses, the suspect  believed to be an Ikpoto man boarded the motorcycle as a passenger. While they were on transit at a narrow point along the route, the passenger allegedly pulled out a knife and began stabbing Sunday in a desperate bid to snatch the bike.

The sudden attack caused both men to lose control and crash off the moving motorcycle. Shocked residents who rushed to the scene initially thought it was a simple road accident. It was only after gathering around the fallen rider that they discovered the horrifying truth: it was a violent robbery attempt.

A local source who witnessed the chaos told reporters:
“People gathered thinking it was an accident, only to realise the passenger had attacked the rider to steal his bike.” Sunday did not survive the multiple stab wounds.

As of now, authorities in Ogun State are yet to issue an official statement, and investigations are still ongoing to apprehend the suspect, who reportedly fled the scene after the crash.

The news has sent ripples of grief across Benue, especially among commercial motorcyclists who risk their lives daily on the roads. Many are now calling for stronger security measures for okada riders operating outside the state.
