Benue ALGON Presents New Coaster Bus to Governor Alia in Support of 2026 Rural Development Agenda

The Benue State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), led by Chairman Hon. Vitalis Terhile Neji, has procured and presented a brand-new coaster bus to strengthen operational capacity ahead of the state’s rural development drive. The vehicle was formally handed over for inspection to Governor Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia on Tuesday, January 7, 2026, at the Government House in Makurdi.

Speaking during the presentation, Hon. Neji explained that the acquisition reflects the collective resolve of local government councils to reposition grassroots administration for more effective service delivery. He emphasized its alignment with the 2026 Budget of Rural Development and Livelihood Support, noting that the bus will significantly improve ALGON’s mobility, coordination, and ability to monitor projects while fostering closer engagement with rural communities.

“The 2026 budget places strong emphasis on rural development and livelihood support, and local governments are central to achieving these goals. This vehicle will support monitoring, collaboration, and effective implementation of policies and programmes that directly impact our people,” Neji stated.

Governor Alia commended the ALGON leadership for the gesture, describing it as a clear demonstration of commitment to strengthening local institutions. He stressed that sustainable rural transformation depends on a proactive and functional local government system, urging council chairmen to align their priorities with the budget’s objectives for greater accountability and tangible results at the grassroots.
