In the latest twist of a unfolding Benue social media saga, activist D Naked Orkwande has fired shots at her former beneficiary, Martha Akumbur, dismissing claims of mishandled donations and insisting that every kobo has been accounted for—or spent wisely.

The drama kicked off when Martha, a young woman previously supported by Orkwande, went public accusing the activist of failing to deliver on promised funds. Martha alleged that donations meant for her were unfulfilled, with her account supposedly showing a balance of ₦95,000 that never materialized in full.

But Orkwande isn’t having it. In a fiery detailed post dated October 31, 2025, she laid it all out: public contributions totaled ₦365,000, and she personally chipped in ₦255,000 from her own pocket to bolster the support for Martha. That’s a combined pot of ₦620,000, according to the activist.

Where did it go? Orkwande breaks it down item by item—a high-end phone costing ₦250,000, clothing expenses exceeding another ₦250,000, hospital bills, and assorted personal needs for Martha. She maintains that Martha’s current account balance is flat zero, not the ₦95,000 previously floated in the accusations.

The backstory adds fuel to the fire. Orkwande claims Martha once bolted from the scene after facing mockery for being labeled an “orphan,” which escalated to the point where the activist had to rally the army, police, and DSS for a late-night search operation. That wild goose chase? It reportedly set Orkwande back another ₦100,000.

Throughout the ordeal, Orkwande says she granted Martha full access to her ATM card and even vowed to hand over ₦95,000 to Ukan Kurugh for onward transfer to the young woman. Yet, despite these gestures, the gratitude soured into public allegations.

This back-and-forth has ignited online debates, with netizens splitting into camps over transparency in public donations. One side hails Orkwande’s generosity and detailed receipts, while others question the optics of personal fund-mixing and the high-ticket items like a ₦250,000 phone amid cries of unmet needs.

As reactions pour in across platforms, the controversy underscores the tricky terrain of crowdfunding and mentorship in Nigeria’s digital age. Both women present compelling narratives—Orkwande with her itemized spending and search story, Martha with her claims of shortchanged support. Who’s got the full truth? The comment sections are buzzing, and this Benue beef shows no signs of cooling off anytime soon. Stay tuned; in the world of social media activism, receipts are king, but trust is the real currency.
