Barely 24 hours after the gruesome murder of okada rider Abbah shocked Makurdi, yet another brazen robbery has been captured on video, further confirming that criminals now operate with terrifying impunity in the Benue State capital.

In a CCTV footage currently circulating widely on social media, a man who had just left GTBank was trailed by armed robbers on motorcycles. The victim stopped at ROVI Pharmacy along Kanshio–North Bank road to buy drugs, only for the criminals to pounce immediately.

The video shows the robbers smashing the car windows in broad daylight while other road users watched helplessly. Within seconds, they made away with bags containing valuables and a huge sum of money before speeding off.

The incident, posted by a concerned citizen identified as D’naked Elder Zege’Orkw, has sparked fresh outrage. “The rate crime is increasing in Makurdi,” he wrote, while tagging the Benue State Police Command and appealing for useful information that could lead to the arrest of the gang.

Residents say this style of operation, trailing people from banks and striking the moment they stop in traffic or at a shop, has become frighteningly common in the city. Many now avoid carrying large sums of cash or withdrawing money openly, but as the video shows, even normal daily movements have become dangerous.

Coming just a day after Abbah was tortured and killed for his motorcycle behind NASME barracks, this latest robbery has left many asking the same painful question: how safe is Makurdi anymore?

The police are yet to issue an official statement on either the murder of Abbah or this latest robbery, but citizens are demanding urgent and visible action. People want patrols, intelligence-led operations, and arrests. They want to feel safe again in their own city.

Until that happens, fear continues to spread faster than the criminals themselves.
