Activist Ukan P Kurugh Cautions Benue Youths Over Alleged Police Profiling of TVS Motorcycle Riders

A human and gender rights activist, Ukan P Kurugh, has issued a strong word of caution to Benue youths regarding the use of TVS motorcycles, popularly known as “rubber-rubber” bikes.

In a widely circulated statement, Kurugh highlighted repeated complaints from young people who claim they are frequently stopped by officers of the Benue State Police Command in Makurdi on suspicion of being internet fraudsters simply because of the type of motorcycle they ride.

According to the activist, many of those stopped are allegedly taken to police stations instead of undergoing routine checks at the point of interception, with some claiming they were asked to pay substantial sums before being released.

Kurugh emphasized that no Nigerian should be profiled, harassed, or treated as a criminal based solely on the motorcycle they ride, stressing that every citizen deserves to be treated with dignity, fairness, and in accordance with the law.

The activist, who described himself as exhausted by the volume of such complaints, appealed for professionalism, accountability, and respect for the rights of law-abiding citizens. He clarified that his intervention is not an attack on the police but a call for better service delivery and public trust.
