Former Senator Barnabas Gemade, who once represented Benue North-East in the National Assembly, has firmly dismissed circulating rumours suggesting he has retired from politics. In a clear and direct statement, Gemade asserted that he is more active in political affairs than ever before, emphasizing his continued deep involvement in the state’s and nation’s political landscape.

Gemade made the remarks during the burial ceremony of the late Baba Kunde Alabesa, father of Hon. Ephraim Kunde, the Benue State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management. Speaking at the solemn occasion, he addressed the speculation head-on, describing reports of his political withdrawal as the work of mischief-makers intent on spreading falsehoods.

The veteran politician explained that while his role may have shifted from frontline electoral contests and constant public appearances, his influence and contributions have not diminished. As a respected party elder, Gemade now focuses on providing strategic advice, counsel, and guidance to party members and younger leaders. This evolution, he noted, reflects a natural progression in his political journey rather than any form of retreat.

Gemade’s clarification comes at a time when political discussions in Benue State remain vibrant, with ongoing conversations about leadership, party dynamics, and future elections. His statement serves as a reminder of his enduring stature as an elder statesman whose experience continues to shape political discourse in the region.

Observers see this intervention as significant, given Gemade’s long history in Nigerian politics, including his tenure as national chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and his various roles in legislative and party affairs. By reaffirming his active status, he has effectively quashed doubts about his relevance and signaled his readiness to remain a key voice in Benue’s political future.
