Growing frustration over persistent insecurity has prompted residents of the Sankera geopolitical zone in Benue State to issue an urgent appeal to Tiv sons and daughters, traditional rulers, and political leaders to rise up and confront the escalating wave of violence in the area.

Sankera, widely regarded as one of the state’s major food-producing belts, has become a hotspot for repeated attacks allegedly carried out by Fulani herdsmen, leaving communities in constant fear and disrupting agricultural activities.

In a widely circulated social media post shared by a Facebook user identified as Ajaga Leader, a concerned citizen lamented the continued lack of effective action to restore peace. The post specifically highlighted the suffering of communities in Ngenenev Local Government Area, including Ugbaam, Borikiyo, Uyam, and Kundav, which have reportedly faced multiple deadly incursions.

“Why are we not effectively addressing the insecurity in our own state?” the writer asked rhetorically, pointing out the apparent silence of prominent Tiv leaders from the zone. Among those named were former Governor Dr. Gabriel Suswam, a former senator from the area, and the current serving senator, who the post accused of remaining quiet, seemingly out of fear.

The appeal went further, urging Tiv youths to move beyond political mobilization during election periods and take decisive action to protect their homeland. The post also called on traditional rulers and local government chairpersons to step up and act decisively, warning that “Sankera is sinking day and night.”

“It is time we come together to restore peace and security to our beloved land,” the message concluded, stressing the urgent need for both government intervention and genuine community solidarity.

The renewed outcry comes against the backdrop of long-standing farmer-herder conflicts in parts of Benue State, where clashes over land, grazing routes, and resources have claimed numerous lives and displaced thousands of people over the years.

While no official response has been issued by state authorities or security agencies as of press time, the passionate appeal from Sankera residents underscores the deepening sense of despair and the growing demand for concrete measures to halt the cycle of violence in the food-producing heartland of the state.

The situation in Sankera continues to draw attention as stakeholders watch closely for any signs of decisive action from government, security forces, and community leaders to avert further deterioration.
