Governor Hyacinth Alia Nominates Jerry Jiminbee Ashwe to Benue State Independent Electoral Commission

In a move aimed at strengthening the state’s electoral body, Benue State Governor, Reverend Father Hyacinth Alia, has nominated Jerry Jiminbee Ashwe as a member of the Benue State Independent Electoral Commission (BSIEC). The announcement was made on Sunday, December 14, 2025, through a press release by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Sir Tersoo Kula.

Ashwe, who hails from Gwer-West Local Government Area, will represent the Ichongo-Tiev constituency, which comprises Lobi and Gwer areas, upon confirmation. The nomination has been forwarded to the Benue State House of Assembly for the necessary screening and approval process.

This appointment fills the vacancy created by the unfortunate passing of the previous representative for the area, Hon. Aikieghe Deva. The governor’s decision underscores the administration’s commitment to ensuring balanced representation and continuity in the operations of BSIEC, the body responsible for conducting local government elections in the state.

Ashwe brings notable qualifications to the role, holding a Master’s degree in Public Administration (MPA). He currently serves as the Admin and Personnel Manager at New Nigeria Timber Company (NNTC) and also works as a Personnel Assistant with the Teaching Service Board. His professional background in administration and personnel management is expected to contribute effectively to the commission’s mandate of promoting fair and credible electoral processes.

The nomination comes as part of ongoing efforts by the Alia administration to bolster key institutions in Benue State, ensuring they function efficiently in the interest of the people.
