In a show of solidarity and shared commitment to peace, the Executive Chairman of Guma Local Government Council, Hon. Maurice Orwough, today hosted the Benue State Commissioner of Police, CP Ifeanyi Emenari, on a courtesy visit at his Makurdi residence. The high-profile meeting underscored the growing partnership between local authorities and security agencies in tackling unrest in one of Benue’s most strategic areas.
Represented by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Administration), DCP Gimba Samuel Yerima, the police boss extended condolences to Hon. Orwough over the recent passing of his father, while commending his proactive leadership in prioritizing security within Guma. The visit, according to official statements, was also aimed at reinforcing the existing collaboration between the Benue State Police Command and the local government to ensure sustained law, order, and safety across the region.
During the interaction, DCP Yerima praised Orwough’s administration for its consistent support to security operatives, particularly in facilitating rapid response to incidents and sustaining community policing initiatives. He reaffirmed the Command’s readiness to deepen ties with the council, emphasizing joint efforts to protect lives and property in Guma and beyond.
In response, Hon. Orwough expressed profound gratitude for the condolence message and the police delegation’s gesture. He lauded the Benue Police Command for its dedication to duty, swift interventions, and community engagement, describing their presence as a morale booster for both the council and residents. The chairman used the occasion to outline key security-enhancing projects under his administration, with a major highlight being the near-completion of the Daudu Area Command Station.
“This facility will soon be commissioned,” Orwough announced, adding that it would significantly boost police visibility and response time in the area. He assured the delegation of continued logistical and moral support to security agencies operating within Guma.
Also present and contributing to the discourse was the Ter Guma, HRH Chief Dennis Shemberga, who appreciated the police for the visit and pledged the unwavering support of the traditional institution in promoting peace. He stressed that the royal council would remain a reliable partner in intelligence gathering and conflict resolution to complement law enforcement efforts.
The police delegation included senior officers such as DCP Ike Nwosu (DCP State CID, Makurdi), ACP Madani Bitrus (Area Commander, Makurdi), ACP Abdul Sani (ACP Administration), and the three Divisional Police Officers (DPOs servicng Guma Local Government Area. Their presence highlighted the strategic importance of Guma in the state’s security architecture.
This courtesy call comes at a time when local governments in Benue are increasingly aligning with security agencies to curb farmer-herder clashes, banditry, and communal tensions. The synergy between Hon. Orwough’s administration and the police is seen as a model for grassroots security governance, with many hoping it will yield lasting stability in Guma and inspire similar collaborations elsewhere.
As the Daudu Area Command Station nears commissioning, residents anticipate improved safety and faster emergency response. Today’s visit has not only strengthened institutional bonds but also sent a clear message: security remains a collective responsibility, and Guma is leading by example.
