Nigerian Copyright Commission Seizes Pirated Books Worth ₦2.3 Million in Benue

The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has conducted a significant operation in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, confiscating pirated books valued at ₦2.3 million. This coordinated raid, part of the Commission’s routine monitoring and inspection exercise, targeted five schools following credible intelligence reports.

The enforcement team, led by Thomas Mgbannngun, comprised five NCC officers, seven police personnel, and a representative from Metropolitan Publishers Limited. The operation, codenamed “Operation Test the Light,” focused on the following schools: Four Square International School, ECWA Nursery and Primary School, Bright Brain School, Assembly of God Nursery and Primary School, and First Baptist Nursery and Primary School, all located in Makurdi.

According to Mgbannngun, no illegal materials were found at Four Square International School and First Baptist Nursery and Primary School. However, pirated books were discovered and seized at ECWA, Bright Brain, and Assembly of God schools during the raid.

Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the seized materials, and investigations are ongoing. This operation underscores the NCC’s commitment to combating piracy and protecting intellectual property rights in the region.
