A disturbing incident unfolded in Gboko along the Gboko-Aliade road, where unidentified persons attacked and vandalized the “Throne of Grace Healing and Deliverance Ministries” church. The assault, which occurred on Friday, September 19, 2025, at approximately 11:00 AM, resulted in the destruction of properties including chairs, a keyboard, drums, a public address system, unused tiles, windows, and the roof, with damages estimated to be worth over ten million naira.

Prophet Prince Matthew Lorhembe, the head of the church, expressed shock during a telephone interview, noting that the youths stormed the church with dangerous weapons and carried out the attack unchallenged. He added that despite calling the police, the vandals had completed the destruction and fled before law enforcement arrived. Prophet Lorhembe alleged that three individuals have been arrested by the Gboko Central police station in connection with the incident.

The cleric voiced confusion over the motive, particularly wondering why his church was targeted without any explanation of his offense. He called on church members to remain calm and allow the law to take its course but indicated that if the matter is not settled, he will pursue it lawfully, emphasizing the significant financial loss.

Confirming the incident, DSP Orchia Peter, 2ic Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Benue State Command, stated that the case is currently under investigation at ‘A’ Division Gboko. A source close to the pastor suggested the attack might be linked to an allegation by an unnamed married woman who claimed she was raped by the prophet during a prayer session. However, the source questioned the plausibility, noting the alleged incident occurred in broad daylight at a roadside church around 10:00 AM without raising any alarm.
