Activist Condemns Attack on Rev. Fr. Peter Kwen, Demands Urgent Action on Benue Security

An activist for good governance in Benue State, Inja Titus Kaase, has strongly condemned the attack on Reverend Father Peter Kwen by unknown gunmen in Zaki Biam, describing it as barbaric, satanic, cowardly and inhuman. According to the activist, the priest was attacked at midnight on Friday, 6 November 2026, while returning from Makurdi. The gunmen wounded him, robbed him of all his belongings and abandoned him unconscious by the roadside.

Kaase said the incident went beyond robbery, calling it attempted murder, terrorism and an attack on the Church, the priesthood and humanity. He questioned the state of security in Benue, asking what kind of society exists where a man of God who left everything to serve the people cannot travel safely on his own land. “If a Priest is not safe in Zaki Biam, then who is safe in Sankera? Who is safe in Benue State?” he asked.

The activist directed strong calls to the authorities. He urged the Benue State Government to move beyond press statements and condolence visits and take concrete action to restore lasting peace in Sankera, Zaki Biam, Katsina-Ala and Ukum, insisting that Sankera has bled enough. He called on security agencies, including the Police, Army, DSS and Civil Defence, to intensify patrols, especially night patrols on the Makurdi–Zaki Biam road, fish out the criminals and ensure they are known, arrested and prosecuted. He further demanded that the Federal Government declare a total war on banditry, kidnapping and armed robbery in Benue State, declaring that the state is under siege and that lip service is no longer enough.

Kaase thanked Almighty God for sparing the life of Rev. Fr. Peter Kwen and prayed for his speedy recovery, divine protection, renewed strength and complete healing. He made it clear that the people will not keep quiet or be intimidated, stating that an attack on one priest is an attack on all Christians and an attack on one Benue man is an attack on all Benue people. He stressed that if the government cannot protect its citizens, it has failed in its primary duty, adding that security is not a privilege but a right. The activist concluded with a firm demand for justice, peace and security now.
