Benue State Governor Rev. Fr. Dr. Hyacinth Iormem Alia has commenced the payment of outstanding December 2017 salary arrears owed to civil servants. The development was announced in a statement circulating on Saturday, marking another step in the administration’s efforts to clear inherited salary liabilities and improve the welfare of state workers.
According to the report, the state’s 2026 budget includes a specific provision for salary arrears, underscoring the government’s stated commitment to addressing long-standing financial obligations to its workforce. The payment of the 2017 arrears is presented as part of a gradual fulfilment of earlier promises made to workers.
As of the time of the announcement, details on the exact number of beneficiaries, the mode of disbursement and the timeline for full completion of the exercise had not been independently confirmed.
