Hon. Matthew Adekpee, leader of the #FixOjuObiOtukpoRoad campaign, has disclosed the conditions presented by China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) for the construction of the Oju-Obi-Otukpo road in Benue State.
According to Hon. Adekpee, CHEC outlined three major demands:
1. Payment using Ecological funds.
2. Execution of the project in exchange for access to minerals in the area.
3. Implementation of a tollgate system on the completed road.
Of the three options, the company is reportedly leaning towards the tollgate arrangement, which has been deemed more feasible after evaluation.
Hon. Adekpee emphasized that the matter requires careful consideration, stating that only traditional and political leaders can sit down to discuss the proposals. He noted that no formal discussions have commenced yet.
The revelation has sparked interest among residents eager for the long-awaited road project, as stakeholders await further developments on how the state will engage with the Chinese firm to deliver the critical infrastructure.
