Jov Shrine Destroyed by Suspected Religious Extremists in Genyi-Yandev, Tiv Land

A traditional Jov Shrine located in River-Tyeku, Genyi-Yandev village, has reportedly been destroyed and burnt down to ashes by self-proclaimed “men of God.”

The incident has sparked outrage among members of the community, with many describing the act as unconstitutional, traditional, religious, and a violation of human rights. Residents are calling for strong condemnation across Tiv land.

Sharpy Jay Amor, who shared the news, questioned whether the destruction was carried out by the rightful owner of the land. He emphasized that Nigeria’s constitution guarantees freedom of worship for all faiths and wondered if similar destruction of a church or other place of worship would be tolerated.

The post also raised suspicions that the perpetrators might be Fulani herdsmen or bandits attempting to disguise their activities. The author urged the leadership of the Jov religion in Tiv land to approach the relevant authorities and seek justice through legal means, pledging full support for any action taken to address the matter.
