Benue Girl Trafficked to Ghana Rescued in Cotonou as Family Located

A young Benue girl who was trafficked to Ghana and later displayed signs of mental distress in Cotonou, Benin Republic, is receiving attention as rescuers have successfully traced her family.

According to anti-human trafficking advocate, Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya, the girl’s father, Mr. Udooiji from Guma Local Government Area, has been located. The mother, according to the father, is deceased.

The girl was reportedly trafficked to Ghana while mentally stable. After serving her madam in prostitution-related work, the madam allegedly refused to release her. She later escaped with some friends to Mali. On their journey back to Nigeria through Cotonou, she began exhibiting mental health challenges.

Yaaya stated that details of the aunt who took the girl to Ghana have also been obtained, adding that it is now her duty to bring the young lady back home in whatever condition she is in.

The rescuer assured the public that further action is being taken to ensure the girl is safely repatriated to her family in Benue State.

This case once again highlights the ongoing dangers of human trafficking affecting young women from Benue State and the need for stronger collaborative efforts between security agencies, NGOs, and families to combat the menace.
