Anglican Communion, Gboko Diocese Dismisses Rev. Amos Aondofa Aondoakaa Over Alleged Misconduct

The Anglican Communion, Gboko Diocese, has announced the dismissal and withdrawal of the priestly license of Rev. Amos Aondofa Aondoakaa, effective from May 6, 2026.

In an official notice signed by Rev. Canon Jared Fanen Bashi, Diocesan Communicator and Media Officer, the diocese stated that Rev. Aondoakaa is no longer recognized as a priest in the Global Anglican Communion, Gboko Diocese. The public has been advised that any dealings with him after the stated date have no connection with the diocese or the Anglican Church.

The notice listed several reasons for the disciplinary action, including:

– Sexual immorality in the vestry and desecration of the church
– Issuing ungodly threats to church members
– Illicit sexual relationship with one Miss Juliana Poor, resulting in an unwanted pregnancy
– Involvement in fetish practices and doctrinal errors, such as collecting money in the name of prayer, burying items in members’ compounds, selling ‘consecrated’ items, and dealings with native doctors
– Use of suspicious materials during prayers
– Dubious character and unfaithfulness
– Incidents of domestic violence against his wife, Mrs. Charity Aondofa Aondoakaa
– Actions that promote division and discord within the church
– Defamation and scandal against the leadership of the diocese

The diocese described the decision as a painful but necessary disciplinary measure to uphold the holiness of the priesthood and the principles of the Anglican faith. It concluded with a call for repentance and prayers for reconciliation with God.

This development has sparked reactions within the Christian community in Benue State, particularly in the Gboko area.
