13-Year-Old Girl Rescued After Brutal Beating in Makurdi’s Saba Community

A disturbing case involving the assault of a 13-year-old girl identified as Olivia Adeka has sparked outrage in Makurdi, Benue State, after a video showing her being beaten by other girls went viral on social media.

Human rights activist Zege’Orkwande Sughnen Yaaya raised the alarm in a post, calling on residents of the Saba Community, particularly those around the BSU first gate area, to assist in rescuing the minor from the hands of what he described as “bad girls.”

According to the activist, Olivia left her family home without her parents’ consent and moved in with a group of girls in the Saba Community. She was later allegedly subjected to severe beating by members of the group, with the distressing scenes captured and shared online, showing her crying and pleading while being assaulted.

In a follow-up update posted shortly after, Zege’Orkwande announced that “All arrested,” suggesting that the individuals involved in the assault had been apprehended by security operatives following the public outcry.

The incident has drawn attention to the vulnerability of young girls in urban communities in Makurdi and the risks associated with minors leaving home to stay with peers without parental supervision. Many residents have expressed concern over the rising cases of youth violence and peer exploitation in parts of the state capital.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the arrest and the circumstances surrounding the assault, but the swift response to the viral video highlights the power of social media in prompting immediate action on child protection issues.
