Former APC Governorship Aspirant Dr. Terwase Matthias Byuan Defects to Labour Party in Benue

In a significant political development ahead of the 2027 elections, former APC governorship aspirant and seasoned technocrat, Dr. Terwase Matthias Byuan, has officially dumped the All Progressives Congress (APC) and joined the Labour Party (LP) in Benue State.

The announcement was made by Hon. Philip Agbese, member representing Ado/Okpokwu/Ogbadibo Federal Constituency and current Labour Party leader in Benue State. Hon. Agbese described Dr. Byuan’s defection as a “major boost” for the party.

Dr. Byuan, who until recently served as Executive Director of Finance at the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, was warmly received into the Labour Party by the state leadership.

According to Hon. Agbese, the official presentation of Dr. Byuan’s Labour Party membership card is expected to take place in Benue soon, with top party leaders in attendance.

This latest defection comes just weeks after Hon. Philip Agbese himself left the APC for the Labour Party, further intensifying political realignments in the state.

Dr. Byuan’s move is being viewed by political observers as another blow to the APC in Benue and a potential challenge to Governor Hyacinth Alia’s political structure as the countdown to the 2027 governorship election begins.
