Rev. Fr. Tyongi Gerald Ter Appointed Substantive Principal of Divine Love Catholic Girls’ Secondary School, Katsina-Ala

The Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala has appointed Rev. Fr. Tyongi Gerald Ter as the new Substantive Principal of Divine Love Catholic Girls’ Secondary School, Katsina-Ala.

The appointment was announced on Monday, May 4, 2026, when the Chairman of the Diocesan Education Committee, Rev. Fr. Dr. Moses Tyosenda, accompanied by the Director of Catholic Education Services, Rev. Fr. Peter Abiem, formally presented Fr. Gerald to the staff and students of the school.

Fr. Tyongi Gerald Ter succeeds **Mrs. Anne Adejor, Ph.D.**, who served as Principal of the school from 2019 until 2026.

In a notable milestone, Rev. Fr. Tyongi Gerald Ter becomes the first Catholic priest to serve as Principal of Divine Love Catholic Girls’ Secondary School since its establishment 45 years ago.

Rev. Fr. Tyongi Gerald Ter is a well-qualified educationist and cleric with a strong academic and pastoral record.

He began his education at Glory Nursery/Primary School, GRA Gboko, and later attended St. James Minor Seminary, Yandev-Gboko, where he obtained his West African Examinations Council (WAEC) certificate in 2008.

He proceeded to St. Thomas Aquinas’ Major Seminary, Makurdi, where he earned a Bachelor of Philosophy (B.Ph) in 2013 and a Bachelor of Theology (B.Th) in 2018. He was ordained a Catholic priest on July 7, 2019.

Fr. Gerald furthered his studies with a Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) at the University of Mkar (2019–2020), and in 2025, he completed a Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Educational Management from Veritas University, Abuja.

Since his ordination, Fr. Gerald has served in various pastoral and educational roles, including:

– Assistant Priest at St. Paul’s Parish, Kyado, and Acting School Administrator at St. Paul’s Catholic Secondary School, Kyado (2019–2020).
– Chaplain and Teacher at Government Secondary School, Gboko (2020–2023).
– School Administrator of Divine Love Catholic Girls’ Secondary School, Katsina-Ala (from January 2026 until his recent elevation).

On May 2, 2026, he was appointed as the substantive Principal of the school.

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Katsina-Ala, Most Rev. Isaac Bundepuun Dugu, who made the appointment, is believed to have considered Fr. Gerald’s solid academic qualifications and hands-on experience in school administration for this important role in girl-child education.

The school community and the diocese have extended warm congratulations to Rev. Fr. Tyongi Gerald Ter, wishing him success in his new assignment.
