The Benue State Signage and Advertisement Agency has issued a strong directive to all owners of commercial billboards and signages across the state to present themselves for proper identification and documentation.
In a public notice signed by the Director General of the Agency, Hon. Chief Solomon Iorpev, owners are required to provide details of the location, dimensions, and total number of billboards under their control. The exercise is in preparation for a stakeholders’ meeting scheduled for the second week of May 2026 and is aimed at aligning with the new tax laws and the agency’s statutory mandate to regulate, document, and administer taxes on all billboards and signages in Benue State.
The notice warns that failure to comply with the directive within 30 days will result in the confiscation of such commercial billboards, which will then be converted into government property in accordance with the law.
The Director General further advised all owners of signboards and signages to refrain from making payments to any individual, group, or body other than the Benue State Signage and Advertisement Agency, which is the only body authorized by law to collect such fees. Any payment made to unauthorized persons or entities will be considered invalid, and the payer risks being required to pay again.
