Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia of Benue State has been formally inaugurated as a member of the planning committee for the forthcoming National Convention of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The inauguration took place on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja, where the full list of committee members was officially unveiled. Governor Alia joined other prominent appointees at the event, marking the official kick-off of preparations for the APC’s major national gathering.
The National Convention is expected to convene delegates and key stakeholders from across Nigeria to deliberate on critical party matters, review internal processes, renew leadership structures where necessary, and chart the strategic direction for the APC in the coming period.
As one of the governors elected on the APC platform, Alia’s inclusion on the planning committee underscores his growing influence within the party and reflects the leadership’s confidence in his administrative experience and political insight. His participation is also seen as a signal of Benue State’s continued strategic importance within the ruling party.
The APC National Convention planning process comes at a time when the party is focused on consolidating its structures, strengthening internal cohesion, and positioning itself effectively ahead of future electoral cycles. Committee members are expected to work closely in the weeks ahead to ensure a well-organized, inclusive, and successful convention.
Governor Alia’s appointment has been welcomed by supporters in Benue, who view it as recognition of his developmental strides and steady leadership in the state since assuming office. The APC has not yet released the full convention timetable, but preparations are now officially underway following the committee’s inauguration.
